Dominica In Pictures – Top Beautiful Places To See
Dominica is recognized as “The Nature Island of the Caribbean” and is a picture-perfect site to photograph. Although it includes a few gold-sand beaches, the majority of the beaches on this volcanic island are black-sand; in fact, they are among the best black-sand beaches in the world.
Dominica is more recognized for its stunning interior environment, where you can climb to boiling lakes and waterfalls with green pools. Other popular Dominica activities include visiting tropical gardens, snorkeling and diving, and learning about the island’s diverse cultures.
Dominica is home to the tallest mountains in the Eastern Caribbean, as well as beautiful, green rainforest scenery. More breathtaking images can be seen offshore, where diving and snorkeling are great.
Here are some of favorite places to see in Dominica in no particular order:
1. Stairway Pathway
The Stairway Pathway, shown above, is part of the three-hour hike to Boiling Lake. It’s also worth taking a few photos here, as the steps contrast beautifully with the lush green jungle.
2. Wavine Cyrique
It’s not easy to get to Wavine Cyrique, an isolated and gorgeous black-sand beach and waterfall depicted here. To get there, you must basically scale down the side of a thick jungle cliffside. You’ll scramble down using ropes and ladders, and there are roots and vines to cling onto if you need a little additional assistance.
It is strongly advised that you hire a local guide to accompany you. It is important to note that once you reach the waterfall, you must climb back up.
3. Roseau Cathedral
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Fair Haven in Roseau, Dominica’s capital city’s Roman Catholic cathedral (shown above), was built roughly a century ago in Gothic Romanesque Revival style.
4. Sperm Whale Watching
Dominica is the only spot in the world where you can see sperm whales all year. The whale depicted above was spotted off the coast of Roseau, although they can also be found around Scotts Head, Layou, and Point Round.
The most whale sightings occur between November and March. The whales can be seen breaching on boat trips or, if you’re lucky, while diving or snorkeling in the sea.
5. Soufriere Bay
Soufriere Bay on Dominica’s southwest coast is one of the most beautiful sites to shoot in Dominica, with deep blue meets brilliant turquoise water, gold sand beaches, and lush greenery. This bay also has two villages: Scott’s Head and Soufriere.
6. Emerald Pool
The Emerald Pool, shown above, is one of Dominica’s most stunningly magnificent natural attractions. The stunning Morne Trois Pitons National Park includes the waterfall and bright green pool. The park encompasses much of the island’s hilly, primitive rainforest interior.
7. Scotts Head Pinnacle
Scotts Head Pinnacle is a well-known dive location in Dominica, accessible via the village of Soufriere. The dive takes you through a grotto passage teeming with soldierfish and other species, as shown above. It’s an intense and incredible dive experience, with the fish literally getting in your face.
Scotts Head, about an hour’s drive south of Roseau, is a beautiful little fishing community that also serves as the starting point for numerous diving and snorkeling excursions across Dominica. Most dives begin at Swiss Cheese, a massive rock structure that contains a tunnel teeming with solider fish.
8. Champagne Reef
Champagne Reef, located in a marine reserve off Dominica’s southwest coast, has some of the best diving and snorkeling in the country. All kinds of marine life can be found here, including tropical angelfish like the ones swimming above. There are also batfish, barracuda, sea horses, and squid nearby.
9. Glassy Point
This stunning image was captured by a drone, but you may take a comparable shot from the ground (the viewpoint will be somewhat different). Glassy Point is located on Dominica’s east coast. The Glassy Trail, which departs from the village of Boetica and is an easy 1.5-mile round-trip climb down to Glassy Pool, is also nearby.
10. Trafalgar Falls
These twin waterfalls are known as the Mother and Father, and hiking to them is one of Dominica’s most popular adventure activities. The trip takes around 15 minutes and follows a fragrant track of ginger and vanilla plants. You can relax in a hot mineral-spring-fed pool at the base of the waterfalls.
11. Red Rocks at Calibishie
Calibishie captured this photograph on Dominica’s gorgeous northeast shore. The surrounding area of the small fishing community is famed for its stunning red rocks (seen here), steep cliffs, and rushing rivers.
This is a wonderful spot to come whether you want to relax at a slower pace or if you want to participate in an active experience like bicycling, hiking, or diving.
12. Boiling Lake
This gray-green bubbling lake is located within Morne Trois Pitons National Park and is reached after a three-hour journey through dense jungle. You can’t swim here because the water is absolutely boiling, but it makes a wonderful photograph.
13. Fort Shirley
Fort Shirley is what remains of an 18th-century British base in Cabrits National Park. There are also lovely views of Prince Rupert Bay from here. The national park also has beautiful green jungle, wetlands, and black-sand beaches.
14. Soufriere Church
The colorfully painted Soufriere Church, depicted above, is located in the village of Soufriere on the southwest coast and is highly beautiful with its turquoise and crimson tones. In the 18th century, volcanic stone was used to construct the Catholic Church. It is directly on the bay.
15. Indian River
Take a boat ride down Dominica’s wildest river, the Indian River, which runs between the town of Portsmouth and the Caribbean Sea. Floating down it is one of the country’s top attractions and a fantastic opportunity to get breathtaking pictures. The green of the trees reflected in the murky water makes for a great nature scene in this photo taken near Roseau.
16. Roseau
Dominica’s capital, Roseau, is located on the country’s southwest coast. It is a dynamic and colorful city with 18th-century Creole architecture and a cobblestone Old Market area. There is also a port where cruise ships can dock.
