The Cheapest Way To Get To Europe And Travel Around
The cheapest way to get to Europe and travel all around: We all enjoy exploiting the travel system to locate the best routes while paying the least amount of money. If you have time and a small budget, the following suggestions will go a long way:
1. Check Google Flights or Skyscanner (in an incognito tab) for a flight from point A to point B.
2. If you come across a nice price that fits your budget, get it right immediately. If you wait and return to the same bargain, the price will almost certainly increase because they can occasionally follow your IP address- why the incognito tab.
3. If you are unhappy with the deal, now is the time to do some research: Go to the airlines’ websites and search for flights there. Check particular routes, layovers, everything, and keep researching. You can also use Flightconnect.com to find direct flights from one country to another, and keep looking until you find a route that fits your budget. Remember, it’s only a matter of time before you find something.
Example: You are in Singapore and need to travel back to Europe to be in Paris by August 20 to move to Athens on August 22.
Qatar Airways’ Singapore-Zurich trip with a 5-hour Doha stopover was the lowest on Skyscanner. Edreams (via Skyscanner) charged 420 euros and Qatar Airways somewhat more.
You’d take the same route to Europe from anywhere. The more time you spend researching cheap/alternative ways, the bigger the payoff. It may be cheaper to fly to point A, Couchsurf for a night or two, and then fly to B. Assuming you have time.
Life isn’t easy. You can get lucky and find a nice offer, but to locate the best affordable routes, you usually have to do the work.
What happens after you reach Europe (yay)? Don’t be fooled—there are many cheap ways to tour Europe.
Start to travel to Europe cheaper
Paris averages $100 per day, Rome $80, Munich $90, and Barcelona $100. These European cities are beautiful but expensive.
What if you could live your European dream for less? Travel smarter to stay longer.
Who wouldn’t want to tell their buddies they spent three months in Amsterdam? You went home because you were broke. Wouldn’t it be better if you lived in Europe for six, twelve, or even years?
It’s possible—just think beyond the box/city. Let’s try switching European destinations to save money.
- Swap Paris for Portugal
…But I love Paris…remember, you are on a budget! Portugal is just as beautiful(and less costly).
Paris! Wine, classic food, and culture are the jewels in the crown of the traveler. And expensive! Change Paris for Portugal and see your daily cost fall.
Here are some facts about Portugal that you may not be aware of:
- Portugal has an average of 300 sunny days per year.
- It has a 948km Atlantic Ocean coastline.
- Port wine is Portugal’s most famous export, and it’s delicious!
- Popular activities include surfing, rock climbing, hang gliding and canoeing.
Portugal, surprisingly, is one of western Europe’s cheapest countries. Lisbon, like all capital cities, is the most expensive to live, work, and visit. It’s a lovely city, but the magic is outdoors.
This slow-paced country has an average daily spend of $30-50 in cities and less in the countryside. Going slowly is cheaper.
Avoid summer since prices and temperatures rise. Spring and autumn are better, with sunshine and surf.
Good explorers know that cooking at home saves money. Portugal’s street markets are also worth visiting. Portugal has great fresh produce.
If you’re nice and speak Portuguese, you won’t be overcharged. Ask questions to practice your Portuguese speaking skills. and you will be rewarded.
Kite surfing, windsurfing, and wreck diving may get uninteresting, right? Visit the Duoro Valley, with its 897km River Douro and delicious wineries. Life is slower here. Trains and boats are popular, but renting a car gives you greater freedom.
- Swap Barcelona for Bulgaria
Controversial I know, but hear me out.
Bulgaria is not just one of Europe’s cheapest countries, but also one of its most attractive. And I say this as a seasoned tourist with over 20 years of experience!
Here are some facts about Bulgaria that you may not be aware of:
- It has 378km of stunning coastline along the Black Sea.
- The average temperature in summer is 30°C.
- Bulgaria has around 30 mountains, with the highest peak, Musala, measuring 2,925 metres/9,596 feet.
- Popular adventure activities include skimobile rides, wreck diving, paragliding, snowshoeing, Via Ferrata and white-water rafting.
These activities cost a fraction of what they do in famous destinations. Bulgaria is a must-visit for budget European travel.
The daily budget is $20–40, a fraction of Barcelona’s cost of living. Money isn’t everything. Bulgaria—why go?
A foodie’s paradise. Choose the best Mediterranean or Arabian food. That implies fish, meat, and vegetarian foods with natural or spicy flavors.
Few can afford to eat out daily. Bulgarians disagree! A $5 local dinner will shock your mind but not your wallet. Bulgarian food is great for beach snacks or alpine comfort meals!
Budget airlines offer cheap flights—just pack light. Carry-on luggage saves money, speeds up boarding, and makes you less of a target for criminals. Flixbus is cheap for land travel.
- Swap Stockholm for Slovakia
If you weren’t aware, here are some facts about Slovakia:
- Slovakia has even more castles than Romania!
- There are over 6000 caves and 1000 thermal springs to explore.
- There are 19 mountain ranges in Slovakia.
- Popular outdoor activities include bungee jumping, skiing, hiking and a fine selection of water sports.
Slovakia is dreamy on $30–50 per day. While more expensive than some of the other European countries on this list, you may stretch your money farther than most.
People visit Stockholm for its natural beauty, but they’ve never hiked the High and Low Tatras. High-altitude lakes and waterfalls are unmatched. If you’re missing nature, get a trekking map and go.
Underground mineral springs can soothe fatigued muscles. They have Dead Sea-like waters. Podhájska’s mineral-rich waters make you float.
The water isn’t simply for napping. Water skiing and windsurfing are popular on the various rivers, lakes, and reservoirs in this landlocked country, but I prefer rafting. Lazily floating down the Dunajec, woodlands on the side, mountains above… pleasure!
Bratislava has several museums, exhibitions, and free walking tours, but budget travelers will want to visit the neighboring cities, villages, and countryside.
The International Festival of Ghosts and Monsters is a must-see for shy individuals! Dress up and learn about witches, ghosts, and aliens at Bojnice Castle (The Castle of Spirits). A nearby high canopy climb offers stunning panoramic views!
Slovakia, while not the cheapest country, should be on your schedule if you want to travel to Europe cheaply.
Volunteering extends your vacation. 20 hours a week teaching cooking leaves time for exploration. Create social media content for local businesses—it’s fun!
- Swap Rome for Romania
If you weren’t aware, here are some facts about Romania:
- Romania has over a hundred castles to explore.
- Romania is home to 60% of Europe’s brown bears.
- It has 243km of incredible coastline with some amazing beaches.
- Popular outdoor activities include hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing and caving.
Romania rivals Rome in history, with recorded history from 440 BC and human remains from 2500 BC.
Romania is more than Bran Castle, Dracula, and Transylvania. They’re a good start, but Romania has much more.
The daily budget is $20–40, half Rome’s. You can truly travel the country with all that extra money.
If you like hiking, bring boots. With almost 1000 hiking paths from Moldoveanu Peak at 2,544 metres/8,346 ft to the magnificent, untamed Black Sea beaches. Wild bears, wolves, deer, lynx, and bison may appear. Better than Vespas, right?
Exploring, you’ll find fairytale castles, monasteries, and historic buildings. Romania is one of the most beautiful nations to visit, and the residents’ traditional dress adds to the beauty.
Even though most Romanians consume meat, vegetarians shouldn’t worry. The pious nation takes fasting seriously. They go vegetarian before Christmas and Easter. Time your visit for “fasting food” and you’ll be in veggie nirvana.
Most European cities offer inexpensive flights and Flixbus for land travel. Avoid peak season (summer) to have a great time in one of Europe’s cheapest countries.
Lastly:
European destinations vary. Don’t reside in pricey, popular cities. It’s not recommended. Budget travelers who wish to maximize their trip might consider trading major names for inexpensive countries.
You’re not missing out, I hope. Visit prominent destinations while traveling between inexpensive ones.
Flexible travel always wins. Do some research, make a basic strategy, and be flexible. Set price alerts for cheap flights, fly with carry-on luggage, and take the night train/bus to avoid a hostel stay.
Traveling to Europe cheaply isn’t hard. Just a little imagination and a willingness to off the tourist trail.
