The FA has charged Manchester United with misconduct following their win over Brentford

The FA has disclosed that a Manchester United coach has been charged with misconduct after the club defeated Brentford last weekend.

With the game tied at 0-0 into first-half stoppage time, referee Samuel Barrott ordered Matthijs de Ligt off the field to undergo treatment for a gushing head cut.

With the Dutch defender on the bench, Brentford seized the lead with an Ethan Pinnock header, causing havoc in the technical area.

Erik ten Hag and his assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, were both booked for their antics on the touchline, while an emotional Darren Fletcher was seen passionately denouncing the decision as both sides exited the ground for halftime.

The enraged Scotsman continued to convey his displeasure with the decision to both Barrott and fourth official Gavin Ward inside the tunnel, with the FA determining post-match that Fletcher may have violated misconduct rules.

The FA issued the following statement: ‘Darren Fletcher has been charged with misconduct following Manchester United’s Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday, October 20.

‘It’s alleged that the coach acted in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official and the referee and/or assistant referees.

Despite falling behind just before the break, United responded effectively in the second half, with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund securing only the club’s third Premier League victory of the season.
