Newcastle United surprisingly sign ex-Sunderland man
Former Sunderland manager Jack Ross is apparently being considered for a position as Newcastle United’s sporting director.
When he was appointed to the Toon squad in March 2023, the decision aroused outrage among fans. Ross was Sunderland’s manager for slightly over a year, guiding the club to a League One play-off final defeat to Charlton Athletic in 2019.
What began as an interim post as head of coach development swiftly became a permanent position. After Ben Dawson resigned to join Leicester City, the 48-year-old took over as interim manager of the under-21s.
His adaptability in a variety of situations has impressed the decision-makers at St James’ Park. Ross, a former Black Cat, is now regarded as a significant member of Tyneside’s furniture, and his playing career with Hartlepool United has provided him with extensive knowledge of North East football.
The Daily Mail now report that Ross has earned a promotion and will work closely alongside Paul Mitchell. His new duties will include finding loan moves for youngsters while building strategic partnerships with potential “feeder” clubs.
