Anthony Gordon’s decision to leave Everton for Newcastle United has undoubtedly paid off, even though Simon Jordan hoped the forward ‘got what he deserved’.

Gordon’s objective was to reach ‘the very pinnacle of football,’ but the Scouser believed he couldn’t do so at Goodison Park. Although Gordon ‘wanted to go’, Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell was the first to concede that the club ‘needed the money’ in January 2023.

Gordon, who was ordered to ‘get out of our club’ by a mob of angry Everton fans after his final appearance for the club, missed training ahead of the mid-season move, and Jordan compared the Scousers’ actions to ‘rats willing to flee a dying ship’. Jordan ‘didn’t appreciate the way Gordon acted’ towards Everton, and the former Crystal Palace owner expressed hope that he had’reaped what he sowed’.

Gordon, on the other hand, has benefited greatly from the move, and he is now one of the top names on Newcastle’s roster. Only Alexander Isak scored more goals for Newcastle last season than Gordon, and the 23-year-old has also made his way into England’s squad.

Gordon signed a new long-term deal with Newcastle this week and Jordan was reminded of the comments he made after the talkSPORT pundit said he hoped the forward ‘got what he deserved’.

“Which was hopefully a successful time at Newcastle,” he deadpanned. “I didn’t deny the context of saying that he gets what he deserves. I wanted to remind myself of how I said it. The bottom line, the actual context, was the fact he was agitating for a move and I felt that Everton deserved more respect.”
