Marcus Rashford’s ‘dream transfer’ revealed following Manchester United star’s bombshell statement that he wants to leave Old Trafford
Marcus Rashford’s dream destination has apparently been revealed after he stated his desire to leave Manchester United for a ‘new challenge’.
Rashford was left out of United’s matchday squad for Sunday’s derby win over Manchester City before revealing his future plans.
The 27-year-old stunned club fans and Amorim when he declared in a bombshell interview while visiting his former school on Tuesday that he is’ready for the next steps’ in his career after two decades with the club.
Rashford has significantly underperformed since signing a new £325,000-per-week contract last year, making him the club’s highest-paid player, and believes he needs to leave Old Trafford to recapture his best form.
Newly appointed United manager Amorim responded to Rashford’s exit allegation by stressing he wants to keep the winger for the future, but Mail Sport recently disclosed the club would be willing to sanction a sale for a cost in the region of £40 million.
Rashford’s future may lie outside of England as it was discovered that his dream destination is Spain, with the player eager to join LaLiga, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The United star is thought to prefer the Spanish top division, but no club has approached the 13-time Premier League champions for his services.
Given their European football pedigree, Real Madrid and Barcelona are likely to be among the England international’s top targets, although it is difficult to envisage either club authorising a transfer for a player who has scored only 15 goals in all competitions since the start of last season.
Atletico Madrid, managed by Diego Simeone, has previously recruited fellow Englishman Conor Gallagher from Chelsea in the summer.
Newcastle had previously been connected with Rashford, and ‘The Magpies’ manager Eddie Howe is set to splurge in the forthcoming January transfer window.
Newcastle are in need of a right-winger, with Jacob Murphy struggling to match Anthony Gordon’s goal-scoring ability on the opposite flank, where Rashford is best suited.
Amorim said of Rashford and Garnacho’s chances of playing against Spurs: ‘We have one more training, but it’s the same situation of all the other players.
‘If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see at the end of training. I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training.
‘My focus is to have all the players in the best that they can be to prepare for each game. There is no if at this kind of club, it is just Tottenham and let’s focus on this game.’
Rashford is reportedly not in the squad for Thursday’s Carabao Cup match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
