Lions Fans Blast Nick Wright for Anti-Jared Goff Take - Athlon Sports

According to First Things First anchor Nick Wright, the Lions have a significant flaw that most other reporters overlook when compared to other top-tier NFL teams.

The Lions have a quarterback that was selected first overall in the 2016 NFL draft. Jared Goff took his last team, the Los Angeles Rams, to the Super Bowl, but came up short.

According to Wright, Goff’s abilities are unremarkable, and Detroit cannot be regarded the top squad.

“I don’t think you can be the best team in the league when you have a civilian at quarterback,” Wright said, which was followed up by a response of “Come on” by co-host Kevin Wildes.

“I can’t say this team with Jared Goff at quarterback is better than the Chiefs or the Bills. I can’t, I won’t,” Wright added, saying that it’s “very difficult” in today’s NFL to win three games in a row with a “guy” who is just a “good guy,’ his classification of the Lions’ record-setting quarterback.

“You can be mad, that’s my opinion on the Lions,” Wright added, to which a co-host called him “dead wrong.”

Fans reacted in the comments section of Wright’s strongly worded opinions on the Lions quarterback.

“That civilian threw the only perfect 18-for-18, three touchdown game,” one said. “He looks like a kid trying to sound important at the adult table,” another reader wrote.

“Ravens did it with Trent Dilfer…No way you can tell me Dilfer is better than Goff,” another fan wrote.

Goff is completing 73 percent of his passes, trailing only Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins among players with 1,400 or more passing attempts this season.

“Goff will feed off that disrespect!” another fan added in response to Wright’s comments.
