Former NFL General Manager Blames Eagles’ Struggles on ‘Legit’ Problems

The Philadelphia Eagles have a fantastic team on paper.

Report: Detroit Lions to interview former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff

However, NFL games are not played on paper. Former NFL general manager Thomas Dimitroff reminded fans of this on Oct. 3, when he spoke about the emotional cost of a Super Bowl loss on NFL Network’s Up and Adams.

Dimitroff stated that the Eagles still look to be dealing with the psychological effects of losing the league’s greatest game.

“It’s two years ago now that they lost the Super Bowl,” Dimitroff said. “I went through that with Dan Quinn. That hangover thing, I hate to talk about it, but it is something legit. You deal with it.

“As a team, sometimes you deal with it well. Other times, you’re flailing around a little bit.”

The Eagles appeared to bounce back from their painful 1-point defeat to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 with a stunning 15-12 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3. However, the Eagles were defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in another blowout this past Sunday, dropping their record to 2-2. Philadelphia also lost to Tampa Bay by more than three touchdowns in the January playoffs.

As much as the entire squad may be battling with what Dimitroff mentioned, quarterback Jalen Hurts might bear a significant portion of the blame for the team’s troubles this season.

In four games in 2024, Hurts has as many interceptions as touchdown passes (four), and he leads the league with five fumbles. When the Eagles secured a trip to the Super Bowl in 2022, Hurts finished second for league MVP.
