Everton’s chief executive condemns decision that will force club to ‘lose out on money’, and supporters agree

Everton has been drawn against Peterborough United in the FA Cup.

Peterborough United have reacted to the decision to schedule their FA Cup match against Everton in midweek.

When the League One team was drawn against the Premier League Toffees in the third round, they were given a fantastic opportunity. It provided not just a thrilling away game for Posh fans, but also additional revenue and the opportunity to play at Goodison Park in Everton’s penultimate season before moving to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

However, rather than a weekend, the fixture has been scheduled for Thursday, January 9, 2025. Peterborough did not expect the game to take place on the same day as Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool face League Two outfit Accrington Stanley on Saturday, January 11. However, they are upset and fear the club will ‘lose out on revenue’ as a result of the move, which would also inconvenience away supporters.

Dawn Gore, Posh chief executive, said: “When the draw was made on Monday night, we were all really thrilled to travel to Goodison Park. Within hours of the draw, we received an overwhelming number of requests for ticket information.
