Dominic Calvert-Lewin criticized over latest Everton contract news
Bryan King believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not the perfect striker for Everton’s future.
The ex-Goodison scout believes the 27-year-old is inconsistent.
It comes as the club remains optimistic about signing a new contract with Calvert-Lewin, who is out of contract at the end of the season [via BBC Sport, 23 November].
However, King, speaking exclusively with Goodison News, is not swayed by the Englishman.
“What Everton should be doing is trying to encourage Calvert-Lewin to start scoring goals again,” King said.
“He is another Everton signing who has never quite lived up to the potential. There have been little periods where he’s looked the business. However, there have been much longer periods where he hasn’t looked good at all.
“The supporters at Everton are pretty good judges and I think they’ve been pretty tolerant with him. Therefore, he needs to sharpen up now and demonstrate to people that he can be a reliable striker.
“However, his inconsistency has caused doubt among supporters about him. Is he the right striker for Everton? Personally, as it looks at the moment, I don’t think so.”

However, when clubs begin to decide against signing the striker [via TEAMtalk, 25 November], Calvert-Lewin may feel that staying with the Toffees is a better option.
If he is unable to achieve a suitable move away from Goodison Park and the club remains in the Premier League, the forward has no reason not to stay.
However, the Toffees should consider whether or not Calvert-Lewin merits a new deal.
The former England international hasn’t scored in his last eight games and will need to improve if he wants to earn a potential new deal.
