“Dear me.” Chris Sutton’s brilliant dig at Kris Boyd as he reacted to the dramatic Celtic comeback victory over Ross County
Celtic left it late to save two possible penalties against Ross County, capping off a dismal week for the current Scottish Premiership champions on a high note.
Brendan Rodgers’ team defeated County 2-1 when Ronan Hale’s first-half penalty was cancelled out by a 76th-minute Alistair Johnston equaliser, only for Nicolas Kuhn to score late to return all three points to Glasgow for Celtic.
In a game where Celtic huffed and puffed, it appeared that Rodgers’ side might draw, but the Hoops dug in to secure a critical away win with Rangers and Aberdeen still to play.
It was a disappointing viewing for the visiting Celtic supporters, and former Hoops great Chris Sutton has offered his thoughts on the performance, in which the Bhoys appeared to be out of ideas for much of the game.
Kris Boyd ‘didn’t like’ Nicolas Kuhn’s Celtic celebration
In a magnificent game-ending moment, Sutton took to social media outlet X to give his thoughts on the game, highlighting Kris Boyd’s unusual thoughts on Nicolas Kuhn’s Celtic celebration.
Sutton said, “Celtic huffed and puffed and finally got there. The subs changed the game.
“McCowan excellent, Kyogo’s movement fantastic, Forrest the old stager looked sharp. Kuhn wonderful finish. Kris Boyd didn’t like him celebrating the winner… dear me.”
Boyd clearly thought Kuhn should have earned a second yellow card for celebrating with the travelling Celtic support, but the German winger remained on the pitch to celebrate with the team and fans again at full time.
Ross County match stats tell the story of a frustrating day for Celtic
Celtic were in control for much of the encounter, with over 82% possession, but they struggled to break down a stubborn Ross County side, as the numbers reveal.
The Staggies had five shots, two of which were on target, including the converted penalty, whilst Rodgers’ squad had 23 shots on Ross County’s goal, with only six on aim, 11 off target, and County custodian Ross Laidlaw making four saves.
Celtic had nine corners to one for Ross County, but none of them were converted until late in the second half, when Johnston popped up at the back post to convert a wayward Callum McGregor shot.
However, it was goalscorer Johnston who turned goal provider as his excellent through ball set Kuhn free, and the German winger tapped home well to put Celtic up 2-1 and maintain their perfect Scottish Premiership record intact.
In a week when Celtic was still reeling from their Champions League setback in Dortmund, Brendan Rodgers now enters the international break on a high, and it is up to Aberdeen and Rangers to show their mettle in their respective games later today.
