CeeDee Lamb had a classless message for Austin Seibert following Commanders’ choking
The Washington Commanders deserved nothing from their Week 12 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. They had a chance to save something late on, but kicker Austin Seibert’s botched extra point sent Dan Quinn’s team to their third consecutive defeat.
Prior to this point, Seibert had been almost completely automatic during the campaign. It’s also worth noting that this was his first game back after missing the previous two with a hamstring injury. Whether that was an impact is debatable, but Tyler Ott’s inaccurate long snap didn’t help matters with the game on the line either.
To no one’s surprise, Seibert appeared sad in Washington’s locker room following the game. He was quite upset when addressing the media, almost crying after explaining the events that led to his important choke. What matters most to the player is that he does not let this moment determine the rest of his campaign.
Teammates rallied around Seibert. He was hardly the sole cause of Washington’s demise, but he will be mainly blamed given the extra point’s typical easiness. Overall, special teams were a comedy of errors, and the offense appeared to be out of sync despite their late recovery.
CeeDee Lamb takes cheap shot at Commanders kicker Austin Seibert
If Seibert was looking for compassion after his mistake, he wouldn’t find it in the Cowboys’ locker room. One player who knows him went out of his way to make a classless remark.
CeeDee Lamb, a wide receiver and Seibert’s collegiate teammate at Oklahoma, elected not to take the high road. His nasty remark toward the kicker was uncalled for and lacked integrity.
This is characteristic of the bitter division rivalry between the two NFC East opponents. There is no love lost, even between former college teammates.
Lamb believed that taking a cheap shot was the best course of action. This should directly inspire Seibert and the entire Commanders squad to improve their performance when the two sides meet again in Week 18 of the regular season.
It’s not how you get knocked down, but how you get back up.
Kickers’ lives are notoriously perilous. Seibert understands this firsthand, having bounced around the league before settling in Washington. Shaking this off quickly and returning to his early-season form will be the most effective approach to silence Lamb and the rest of his doubters.
That applies to everyone else in the Commanders’ building. Things are deteriorating at the worst conceivable time. Quinn and his staff must adjust appropriately, and the players must rekindle the sense of collective purpose that propelled them to 7-2 in the past.
Lamb hasn’t had much to cheer about this season, as another promising Cowboys campaign fades into obscurity. Seibert has a chance to win the war by bouncing back and helping Washington reach the playoffs.
