Brentford forward Yoane Wissa might return to action this weekend, providing a significant boost to Thomas Frank as his side prepares to travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Brentford’s 28-year-old has missed the last three Premier League games with an ankle injury. He was also absent from DR Congo’s international duty during the break, as the country met Tanzania twice in Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

The return of Wissa would be good news for the West London outfit. The forward recorded three goals and an assist in his first four top-flight games this season, enjoying a purple period of form before being injured.

Yoane Wissa hailed as ‘quality’ forward

Last month, analyst Danny Murphy praised Wissa and teammate Bryan Mbeumo on Match of the Day 2, saying, “If you took away the colour of the strip, you could mistake them for City or Arsenal.” This is not easy to accomplish. To play from the back with the talent they have and then obtain the final product – it requires penetration and optimism. They are brave enough to leave, and when they do, they have the same width and pace as Wissa and Mbeumo. Two guys who play confidently and pose a genuine threat.

“This is a really positive Brentford side. I was really impressed, they had variation. Sometimes Thomas Frank doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves because his team is not a one trick pony. I don’t think they will have any problems this season.”

Wissa’s return comes ahead of a busy few weeks for Brentford. Following the trip to Manchester United comes a home game against Ipswich Town.

There’s also then a Carabao Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, October 29. While focus remains on the league, that fixture will certainly be on Frank’s mind with a place in the quarter finals in touching distance.

Brentford team news

“Mathi [Jensen] is training very well and training with the team. It’s just too soon to risk him but it’s looking very positive for Ipswich. Igor is a big character in a positive way. It’s still a bit early for him to be involved.”
