The Sky Sports expert says matchwinner Nicolas Kuhn was fortunate to stay on the park.

Kuhn responds to Celtic red card poser after Boyd moan | The National

Miffed Kris Boyd believes Celtic matchwinner Nicolas Kuhn was fortunate to avoid a red card for his late goal celebration.

Alistair Johnston and Kuhn cancelled out Ronan Hale’s first-half penalty to give the Hoops an important three-point win over Ross County. On 75 minutes, right-back Johnston levelled the score as Callum McGregor’s shot bounced off the Canadian’s thigh and into the net.

In the last minutes, German winger Kuhn curled the ball past Ross Laidlaw and dived into the applauding away crowd behind the goal, causing wild scenes. Although Kuhn was obviously caught up in the moment, it was a hazardous decision by the 24-year-old, who had already received a booking for an earlier off-the-ball incident with Connor Randall.

Ref Kevin Clancy could have given Kuhn a second yellow for leaving the pitch of play, but he chose to keep his cards in his pocket, much to the surprise of Rangers icon Boyd.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “‘They [Ross County] defended really well and limited Celtic to a few chances. At the first goal Don Cowie I’m sure will look at it, Alex Samuel is away past the front post for the corner – if he is five yards further back maybe he could clear it.

“It’s small details that can make the difference in a game of football. But take nothing away from Celtic, it’s a fantastic finish from Nicolas Kuhn… and obviously you can just run into the crowd now and celebrate and nothing happens.”

Boyd aimed a dig again following the ad break, adding: “The rules must have changed because I thought you got booked if you run into the crowd.”

But fellow pundit James McFadden jumped to the defence of Kuhn and whistler Clancy, saying: “Relax, he never got booked. If you’re nit-picking then we’ve seen players yellow carded for going and celebrating. But what is it three yards or four yards? It’s very difficult if your momentum is taking you that way not to go and celebrate.”
