Gabriella Kreuz blast Stephen Vogt for ‘sticking to his guns’
Stephen Vogt’s first season with the Cleveland Guardians is concluded.
It ended on a sour note, as they were eliminated by the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series, but it was a tremendous success in every way: a division title, 92 wins, a playoff series victory, many All-Stars, many young players contributing to the club, and so on.
Much of that achievement can be attributed to Vogt.
It’s crucial to remember this because many fans and commentators have constantly blasted him for decisions he made and didn’t make against the Yankees.
Analysts at the BIGPLAY Cleveland Show awarded him praise.
“Gab thinks Stephen Vogt deserves WAY more credit. “I give Stephen Vogt credit for sticking to his guns in the playoffs… he had to go with his gut feeling & what the numbers presented to him.” @JLEWFifty” the BIG PLAY Cleveland Show posted on X.
Gabriella Kreuz said some people believe Vogt ‘overmanaged’ in the playoffs, but she also reminded supporters that the Guardians players bear some responsibility for not hitting with men on base and making costly mistakes.
Jensen Lewis concurred, explaining that he admired Vogt for adhering to his principles and being himself from the start.
He maintained the idea that Vogt had to play the hand he was dealt, which was that he had almost no beginning pitching.
He had to be aggressive with his bullpen usage in most cases.
Overall, the organization is pleased with Vogt’s first-year performance and recognizes the need to improve the pitching staff.
