The MasterCard Foundation is accepting applications for the Mastercard Scholarship in Gondar from interested and qualified African students.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at Gondar University is one of MasterCard’s fully financed scholarships for African students. It includes tuition, housing, living stipends, a laptop, flight costs, and meals at the campus canteens.

Details:

The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at Gondar will grant 160 graduate scholarships over eight years, beginning with the 2018/19 academic year.

The Mastercard Scholarship will directly help academically gifted but disadvantaged adolescents from five East African countries: Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and South Sudan.

The Graduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program aims to help Scholars build transformative and leadership abilities, as well as strong professional and academic competencies, in order to effectively affect global, regional, national, and local socioeconomic development trends.

The Program will provide exceptional academic and nonacademic assistance to Mastercard Foundation Scholars during their time at the University of Gondar.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship in Gondar 2024, you must:

  • Have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relevant to their proposed graduate program from a recognized University using English as a medium of instruction in the past 5 years
  • Have graduated with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) at graduation
  • Be a citizen and permanent resident of Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, or Djibouti (and residents of the respective countries for at least five years at the time of their application);
  • Youth applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply
  • Female applicants with financial difficulty to finance graduate university education are also strongly encouraged to apply

Benefits:

  • The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition, accommodation/boarding, a stipend and additional expenses such as books.
  • The scholarship also includes academic, financial and social support to help awardees develop into capable leaders in their communities, and experiential activities such as summer camps.

Required Documents:

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • Application Form
  • A medical paper signed by the Health/Hospital Board attesting to your disability type and degree, if you have been assessed by a health professional
  • Completed and signed Scholarship Application Form;
  • Detailed resume of academic, non‐academic and volunteer work;
  • All elementary, high school and university transcripts/student copy;
  • Two letters of recommendations from previous universities;
  • National and/or resident identification card, or passport;
  • Testimonials regarding their economic disadvantage (for Kebele/Woreda Administrator);
  • Letter from District Police Office regarding their criminal record; and,
  • Testimonial about voluntary community giveback and leadership.

To apply for the Mastercard Scholarship at Gondar University, interested and qualified applicants should follow the processes listed below:

  • Download a Paper Application (English) form
  • Complete the application form and provide information about their academic ability, financial need and disability status, as well as community giveback and leadership potential.
  • Attach scanned or PDF copies of the required documents
