Demographic, technical, and socioeconomic trends are affecting the formation of a new employment environment and the transition to the digital workplace of the future all over the world. As some conventional work sectors and occupations diminish, other employment sectors and roles develop.

Many wholly new job titles will be formed and become common career options during the next few decades. In the absence of a time machine, here are some predictions for the most likely future jobs…

1. Waste data handlers

Think about this for a minute! Social media, blogs and web browsing are all generating enormous quantities of data per day that needs to be stored, managed and analyzed. Waste data handlers help with this by disposing of data waste in a responsible and secure way, which helps to ensure that identities and personal information are not compromised.

And to think, that figure has most likely doubled or even tripled since then. To put that in context, that’s the equivalent of over 350 million DVDs per day, or over 4,000 Libraries of Congress worth of data per day!

2. Avatar managers

Students interested in programming may be interested in a profession as an avatar manager, which is the next on our list of the most likely future careers. This would entail creating and managing holograms of virtual people to serve as personal interactive guides in settings such as a school classroom.

3. Personal digital curator

Personal branding is another emerging industry in the future workplace, and you may work as a personal digital curator – a professional who proposes and maintains a unique suite of apps, hardware, software, and information sources, curating customers’ digital personalities and portfolios.
