Jamie Carragher blasts Sean Dyche’s treatment of six Everton players
Everton’s new owners are on their way to Goodison Park, where Farhad Moshiri will officially hand over the keys.
Everton fans have endured a long wait, with various parties coming and going over the previous year, but the conclusion is near.
The Friedkin Group is expected to take over Everton this week, with Premier League consent apparently granted last week.
Sean Dyche may be feeling the heat rising despite the recent terrible weather on Merseyside as his job at the club is called into doubt.
The Friedkin Group is anticipated to fire both Dyche and Kevin Thelwell in the new year as they seek to stamp their own identity on the club.
However, Jamie Carragher has confessed that he has noticed something about Dyche’s time at Everton that he is concerned about off the pitch.
Jamie Carragher worried about Everton’s recruitment for Sean Dyche
Everton’s manager has been in charge for almost two years, having taken over in January 2023.
The 53-year-old has had a turbulent stint, with Dyche facing criticism from Everton fans this season after an unsatisfactory start.
This follows a summer transfer window that looked promising on paper.
But Carragher has questioned if Dyche’s additions have been good enough, with few of them having an impact on his starting XI.
“You know, the sporting director is Kevin Thelwell. You know what I think about Sean Dyche at Everton, from when he came in, any player he’s bought virtually they’re still not really in his first XI, maybe Ndiaye this season,” he said speaking on The Overlap.
“But if we go: Pickford was there before he come, the left back, Mykolenko was there. Branthwaite was there, Tarkowski was there, Dwight McNeil was there. Calvert-Lewin was there. Doucoure he was there. Gueye was there. Michael Keane was already there.
“They haven’t spent loads of money, they’ve bought five or six players for £15-20m, they don’t play.”
Carragher has spoken warmly about Everton’s new stadium, but it is clear that he believes there is a problem at the club’s top level.
Signing so many players over the summer for only one to have a significant influence on the starting lineup reveals a problem with the club’s recruitment.
Everton could give Dyche a chance under new leadership
With Thelwell expected to be replaced, perhaps The Friedkin Group will look to give Dyche a chance as their future successor.
It has already been rumoured that the Friedkins had planned their January transfer budget, with PSR presenting a problem once more for the Toffees.
Everton’s 2024 summer signings | Fee |
---|---|
Jake O’Brien | £17m |
Iliman Ndiaye | £15m |
Tim Iroegbunam | £8m |
Jesper Lindstrom | Loan |
Asmir Begovic | Free |
Armando Broja | Loan |
Orel Mangala | Loan |
There are some clear examples from the summer of signings which Dyche may not have approved of with Jake O’Brien still struggling for minutes at Everton.
The teenager seemed an intriguing addition, but O’Brien is already attracting January attention despite a lack of game experience on Merseyside.
With the January transfer window approaching, decisive action on Dyche and Thelwell could be crucial for Everton’s season.
