Lions sign former Pro Bowl linebacker following Malcolm Rodriguez’s injury
Following their Thanksgiving Day victory over the archrival Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions are adding to their defensive roster.
According to ESPN senior analyst Adam Schefter, the team will sign veteran Pro Bowl linebacker Kwon Alexander from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad.
Alexander will now play for the seventh different team in his career (including practice squads), and the fifth in the last four years.
In 2016, the 2017 Pro Bowler led the league in solo tackles while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That 2016 season was the greatest of his career, with 145 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and his sole pick-six.
He also started all sixteen games that season.
Despite suffering injuries during his 10-year career, he has proven to be a productive player when called upon.
He is still only 30 years old, but he can provide Lions head coach Dan Campbell with another veteran to step up in the centre of that rugged defence.
With all of the components in place, the Lions are poised for a potential Super Bowl run this season.
Aside from losing standout edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson to injury, this club has everything it needs to win a championship.
They will, however, meet their rival Green Bay Packers on Thursday night in prime time in an NFC North heavyweight clash.
This will be yet another measuring stick game for both sides as they try to demonstrate how elite they truly are.
