The Chargers will be without JK Dobbins against the Falcons in Week 13.

Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins expected to miss time with knee sprain

The Los Angeles Chargers lost JK Dobbins in the first half of their Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens. His most recent injury update verified the Chargers’ deepest worries.

Dobbins suffered a knee sprain and is expected to lose time, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. He’s already been ruled out for the Chargers’ Week 13 game against the Atlanta Falcons. From there, his status is being described as, “up in the air.”

Before his injury, Dobbins earned 40 yards on six rushes and 18 yards on three receptions. He has been a significant focal point of the attack, so his loss, even if it is only one game, is a major setback.

Dobbins has 766 yards and eight touchdowns rushing in his first season with Los Angeles. He has gained an additional 134 yards in the air on 28 catches. Dobbins ranks ninth in running touchdowns and twelveth in rushing yards.

With the running back out against the Falcons, the Chargers will rely on backup Gus Edwards. He has 63 carries this year, totaling 201 yards and a score. He scored against the Ravens, when Dobbins went down.

He won’t have the same explosiveness as Dobbins, but Edwards understands the LA system. Atlanta ranks 19th against the run, giving up 127.2 yards per game. So it’s not a cupcake matchup, but the Chargers aren’t going to throw Edwards into the buzzsaw.

Nonetheless, Los Angeles hopes to have JK Dobbins back on the field sooner rather than later. Because of his injury history, the Chargers will proceed cautiously and not hurry him. Furthermore, the fact that it is a knee sprain rather than a rupture or break should instill some hope in LA.

However, it is undeniable how important Dobbins has been to the team’s attack in 2024. When they face the Falcons, the Chargers will undoubtedly look very different.
