According to The Sun, Newcastle United is one of two Premier League clubs interested in signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo next year, with Liverpool also showing interest.

The duo are said to be watching the 25-year-old, who is on track to have his greatest season in England after netting eight goals in his first 11 league appearances.

Scouts at St James’ Park have been keeping a watch on Mbeumo recently, with sources saying that manager Eddie Howe has identified him as a ‘dream’ target for 2025.

According to The Sun, Newcastle would be willing to offer Callum Wilson as a potential makeweight in a deal for the £50 million-rated winger if Brentford wanted to trade him at the end of the season.

The Bees are reportedly unwilling to part ways with ‘ferocious ball-striker’ Mbeumo mid-season, since he is regarded as an important player for Thomas Frank following Ivan Toney’s transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Newcastle’s summer transfer window was mainly dismal, with the club adding only two senior outfield players in Lloyd Kelly and William Osula and failing to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Howe revealed that if not for Financial Fair Play concerns, the Magpies would have signed more players, but they were obliged to sell early, with Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson leaving for a combined £65 million.

The Magpies may have a busy January, with rumours indicating that Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, and Callum Wilson are all available for sale.

Their exits could free up finances for fresh signings in January, improving Newcastle’s hopes of returning to European competitions in 2025.

Howe’s side are seventh in the Premier League heading into Monday’s encounter against West Ham, having gained 18 points in their first 11 games.
