Huntsville, Alabama (WAFF) One Alabama A&M football player is still in UAB Hospital five days after being carried off the field during the Magic City Classic on a stretcher.

Medrick Burnett Jr. is a linebacker in his first season at A&M. Burnett was injured during Saturday’s game, but it wasn’t immediately clear how serious the injury was.

 

Athletic Director Dr. Paul Bryant stated that Burnett is in stable condition.

Connell Mayor, the head coach of Alabama A&M football, stated that they cannot say much owing to health privacy rules.

 

However, he said they’re doing what they can to help everyone involved during this tough time.

“We’ve got to send up our prayers. I went back after the game and stayed with him. I picked up his parents up from the airport, and stayed with him Sunday for a while before I came back here,” he said. “Coach Howell and Coach Thornton went down and stayed with him for four hours, so we’re doing all we can do and control what we can control. We [have] to understand that the Lord [has] everything under control and we [have] to do what we can do to just play football and go to school.”
