“Bryce Underwood Welcome To Michigan”: Michigan Wolverines Fans Explode Over Carter Smith’s De-commitment
The Michigan Wolverines are 5-3 this season in college football. Michigan has recently received media attention for its college football recruitment efforts. Earlier this week, several reports surfaced about potentially chasing quarterback Bryce Underwood, who has already committed to the LSU Tigers for the 2025 season.
Carter Smith, a quarterback, had previously committed to Michigan. Smith will graduate high school in 2025.
4-Star Quarterback Carter Smith De-Commits From the Michigan Wolverines
On Wednesday, on3.com reporter Keegan Pope announced that Smith was withdrawing from the program. The Clemson Tigers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Penn State Nittany Lions are among the colleges currently recruiting him.
Carter Smith recently spoke with TheWolverine.com, saying:
“I’m locked in. I’m not going anywhere. There is not a better place on the planet. There isn’t much going on in my life for anyone wondering (laughs). I’m solid because of the quality of people there. It still feels so right.”
This appears to be a significant setback for Michigan’s program. He had considered enrolling early. With Underwood potentially switching from LSU to Michigan, this seemed like the ideal opportunity for Carter Smith to decommit and go elsewhere.

Regardless of Underwood, he was going to be sitting behind Jayden Davis and Brady Hart anyway. He just read the writing on the wall.

Not worried at all, we have Jayden Davis from last year’s class and Brady Hart in 2026. Carter knows he won’t start. And we are throwing money at Underwood, if it works Underwood will start for 3 years.
