According to accounts, a Brazilian football fan was burned to death after being attacked by a rival fan group on Sunday.

The incident occurred as Cruzerio supporters returned home from their league match against Athletico Paranaense in Curitiba in the early hours.

According to Dutch outlet AD, on their way back, the Cruzeiro ultras, known as Mafia Azul, were assaulted by rival fans, thought to be Palmeiras supporters Mancha Verde.

The competing group hurled fireworks at the bus, forcing it to catch fire, and they also used homemade bombs and nails strewn along the road to ensure the tires exploded.

Harrowing videos posted on X showed the ambushers’ perspective as they approached the injured Cruzeiro fans on the floor.

According to local sources, one man was burned alive while many other supporters were injured after being beaten in the head with iron rods.

The event follows a history of violence between the two fan groups, which battled in September 2022.

A battle between Cruzeiro’s Mafia Azul and Palmeiras’ Mancha Alviverde resulted in four shootings and 10 injuries.

At the moment, an online video showed a Palmeiras fan being assaulted. The attackers could be heard saying, ‘Mancha has lost, don’t hit us anymore.

According to reports, the Public Ministry of Sao Paulo will follow the Civil Police’s investigation to identify the Palmeiras fans.

Brazilian football has a history of violence, with a number of horrible incidents involving club ultras taking place in recent years.

Fluminense supporters battled with police in Rio de Janeiro in 2023, just before their Libertadores match against Boca Juniors.

Videos of the event, which occurred in the streets around the stadium, have surfaced, and they appear to show police firing at Fluminense supporters.

The fight necessitated police to wear full riot gear since they were attacked by ultras who were not visible in the video.

Police then formed two lines to shoot back, with more Fluminense fans seen fleeing to safety and concealing their faces.

Meanwhile, in 2019, Brazilian police apprehended three persons when home-made bombs were detonated at Mineirao Stadium following Cruzeiro’s relegation.

According to police, 13 people were brought to nearby hospitals for injuries sustained inside and outside the stadium following Cruzeiro’s 2-0 loss to Palmeiras.

The match was called off early after the first home-made bomb exploded in the stands.
