Good news: Cameron Carter Vickers set to be Celtic giant vs Atalanta, as star man signals the green light
Brendan Rodgers indicated he’d find out on Sunday if the defender will be fit, and it appears he’s heading to Bergamo.
Celtic received a significant boost when Cameron Carter Vickers returned to training ahead of the Atalanta match.
The big American has been a huge hiss in the heart of the Hoops defence, with his absence apparent as they shipped seven goals in a humiliating night out on the continent against Borussia Dortmund on matchday two. Punters also pointed to a Carter-Vickers-shaped hole in the backline as Aberdeen rallied from 2-0 down at Celtic Park over the weekend, as the top two finally found an opponent capable of stopping them.
Carter-Vickers now appears to be returning to Bergamo after being photographed practicing with his Celtic colleagues ahead of his departure from Italy later today. He had returned to the pitch before of the Dons game, but it came sooner than expected given the importance of the Champions League night.
Rodgers stated before the game against Aberdeen: “I think what we’re mindful about with Cam is he had a little bit last season when he was in and out, even though it’s a completely different issue this time.
“It’s one where we were told at the time, it could’ve been anywhere between two and three months, but it’s just not wanting to push him back in too early, which might then set him back, so he’s doing really, really well. He still has a discomfort there, not as bad as what it was for the Bratislava game, but we don’t think he’s too far away from being where he wants to be. So we’re just trying to manage that and just react to each day he trains to see what the after-effects are.”
