Bryce Underwood is rated the top quarterback in the 2025 college football recruiting class. The five-star Michigan native committed to LSU in January after receiving 40 scholarship offers from nearly every prominent college in the country.

However, there are rumours that he may abandon his commitment to the in-state Wolverines in favour of a lucrative NIL contract.

Underwood seems to indicate differently. He literally scoffed at the concept on social media.

Interestingly, there was no word regarding Underwood’s potential flip until recently.

Some of the rumours are credited to Ann Arbor’s 247 Sports affiliate, The Michigan Insider. Sam Webb teased “fireworks” on the website’s discussion board last week.

To make matters even more interesting, Dave Portnoy pledged up to $3 million to the University of Michigan’s NIL fund at the end of September. He committed to ensure that his alma mater obtains a top-10 quarterback in each recruiting cycle.

Following Saturday night’s loss to Illinois, the 47-year-old proprietor of Barstool Sports practically doubled back on his threat.

Perhaps due to Portnoy’s financial investment, there has been a lot of talk about Underwood. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound quarterback hails from Michigan and is the nation’s top recruit.

If Portnoy was willing to pay $3 million to secure a signal-caller for the Wolverines, an in-state prospect regarded as the finest player in the United States at the aforementioned position of need would make perfect sense. Right? Wrong.

Bryce Underwood is not interested!

Over the weekend, a popular college football meme account shared this image on Instagram. It stated that Underwood was offered $4 million to play for Michigan rather than LSU.

This does not appear to be true.

Underwood responded straight to the post with his comment. He only wrote a string of four laughing emojis.

Enough said!

The rumour mill in college football never stops. Someone, somewhere, always has some sort of inside information he learnt from his brother’s wife’s cousin’s neighbor’s postman’s dog-walker. The majority of it is complete nonsense.

In this particular case, we will not know whether Bryce Underwood honours his pledge to LSU until he comes on campus. However, the laughing emojis appear to convey everything we need to know.
