Newcastle United will be without a “absolutely outstanding” player for several weeks, according to team news released ahead of the match against Brighton.

After a quiet summer, transfer whispers about Newcastle continue to circulate, with Bayern Munich starlet Leroy Sane connected with an exciting move to St James’ Park. They are not alone in their desire, with Arsenal and Manchester United also rumoured to be involved.

Similarly, Lille attacking ace Jonathan David has been regarded as a high-profile arrival who might elevate Newcastle’s performance in the final third, but there is still a lot of interest in signing him.

On the other hand, the Magpies will be anxious to keep Alexander Isak, given his role as one of his team’s most vital players, but he is rumoured to be desired by Barcelona, who are considering a big-money deal for the Swedish attacker.

Newcastle return to Premier League action this weekend when they face Brighton, as Eddie Howe’s side looks to build on their success this season. However, there has been a huge injury blow in the lead-up to kickoff.

Newcastle handed fresh injury blow

Following Howe’s press conference on Friday morning, BBC reporter Nisha Joshi revealed various injury updates on X, stating that Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier is out for “weeks” due to a hamstring injury.

Trippier, 34, may not be the force he was when he initially joined the Magpies, but his extensive experience and consistency at right-back make this an undeniable loss. Howe recognises the value of the Englishman, who praised his defender after winning the North East Football Writers Player of the Year award earlier this year.

“What a fantastic choice (The North East Football Writers) made in picking Kieran as your player of the season. Kieran last year was absolutely outstanding in every phase of the play, whether that was creating goals or helping us not concede.

“He also led the team incredibly well during different moments of the season and was always an inspiration off it to help be a role model to the younger players to help progress their careers.”

Tino Livramento, the 21-year-old who is widely regarded as Trippier’s long-term successor at right-back at St James’, should see this as an excellent opportunity to shine once more.

In truth, given the £120,000-a-week Trippier’s waning talents – he has started four league games compared to his teammate’s three this season – he should now be considered the superior option, but Livramento’s strong run of form in the coming weeks should only strengthen his case.
