“He had his moments and had a chance at the end of the game as well but his overall performance was very good. Anyone can miss a penalty and we absolutely support him, he’s been incredible for us but I thought today was a positive game for him.”

Newcastle United and Jamie Carragher lambasted Everton’s disgraceful post. Moucking Anthony Gordon
Jamie Carragher has lambasted Everton for ridiculing Anthony Gordon during their goalless draw against Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old returned to Goodison Park for the third time since signing for the Magpies for £45 million in January 2023, but his first-half penalty was saved by England teammate Jordan Pickford.
Everton fans were overjoyed by Gordon’s miss following his contentious exit, and the club’s social media administrator did not squander the opportunity to play up to the crowd.
A supporter requested that the Toffees’ official X account show Gordon’s missed penalty with the buzzer noise, which is made famous on the quiz program Family Fortunes, that greets supporters who fail to hit the crossbar during half-time.
But Carragher, an Everton fan turned Liverpool legend, didn’t see the funny side.
“Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under [Frank] Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on & off the pitch & who you then sold for £40m,” Carragher wrote. “The Peoples club!”
