‘A disgrace’: talkSPORT analyst mocks Newcastle United over’stonewall’ VAR call
Jamie O’Hara was stunned when Everton were denied a penalty against Newcastle United.
Dan Burn and Dominic Calvert-Lewin collided in Newcastle’s penalty area as the game neared its end. The Toffees striker attempted a shot that hit Burn’s standing leg.
Everton players surrounded the referee, claiming the Toon defender had impeded Calvert-Lewin. Craig Pawson waved off the protests, and VAR, as has been the case this season, upheld the on-field decision.
Burn himself admitted post-match that he was unsure and could have little arguments if Pawson had given a spot-kick. He said: “It’s one of them, if the ref gives it, that probably doesn’t get overturned. I know the referee’s call has been a big thing this year. I felt Dominic kick me but any time there’s contact in the box, as a defender, you’re worried.”
