However, while chatting with the Whites’ media team, he had plenty of admiration for the Black Cats, who have had a promising start to the 2024/25 season under Regis Le Bris.

The Wearside club wasn’t exactly going in the right direction for much of last season, but Le Bris has done a good job thus far, leading his squad to a win over Derby County in midweek.

They can be very proud of their efforts right now, as they are at the top of the Championship table, but they won’t have an easy task this evening, despite having the home advantage.

Leeds are also in the promotion mix despite suffering a couple of disappointing setbacks during the early stages of the season, with Daniel Farke’s men currently sitting in fifth place.

The Whites, who were knocked out of the play-off final in May, will be hungry to return to the Premier League at the second attempt.

They may have lost numerous crucial players during the summer transfer window, but they also added several extremely excellent players, including Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani.

Leeds will travel to the Stadium of Light hoping to take all three points, but they know it will be a difficult challenge.

He told the Whites’ media crew, “They’ve done quite good thus far.

“In these early stages you have to win as many points as possible and they’ve won many, many points so far, they’ve also won every home game so far.

“We know that they’re in really good shape, they have good players, they are strong on the counter-attack, they are strong in all their offensive positions.

“They have players who can score goals and for that, it’s a really dangerous side and I’m full of respect of their work. But, we also know that we are in a good shape and we want to make sure that we are ready to go again on Friday.

“I expect again a tight game against a really good opponent, and we have to be at our best to give ourselves a chance.”

Jobe Bellingham: more Havertz than Jude - by Llew Davies

There are so many talented guys that could make a significant impact tonight.

Romaine Mundle has the potential to continue to excel with the Black Cats, and he is certainly one to watch.

Jobe Bellingham is another promising young player to keep an eye on, while Wilson Isidor will be buoyed by his goal against Derby County in midweek.

Willy Gnonto, who has previously sparked curiosity, will be eager to make an impact for Leeds, and Ramazani is another dangerous attacking talent.

With all of these players expected to play tonight, it promises to be an exciting matchup.
