Gary O’Neil’s team has yet to win in the 2024/25 season, while Thomas Frank has the Bees in 12th place after a promising start.

Position Team Played Won Drawn Lost For Against Diff Points
12 Brentford 6 2 1 3 8 10 -2 7
13 Manchester United 6 2 1 3 5 8 -3 7
14 West Ham 6 1 2 3 6 10 -4 5
15 Ipswich 6 0 4 2 5 10 -5 4

19 Southampton 6 0 1 5 3 12 -9 1
20 Wolves 6 0 1 5 6 16 -10 1

In fairness to the 41-year-old, TBR Football understand Wolves feel they did not back O’Neil well enough in the transfer window, but there is optimism results will improve.

On that note, Paul Merson believes it could happen sooner rather than later for Wolves.

Paul Merson backs Wolves to beat Brentford

Despite a sequence of five defeats and one draw in six Premier League games, Merson believes Wolves will overcome Brentford on Saturday.

The 56-year-old wrote for Sportskeeda: “Wolves are definitely struggling right now, but I thought they did okay against Liverpool last weekend, even though they lost.

“Gary O’Neil is under pressure now. Wolves have been involved in some difficult matches, but they have played decent football – albeit in patches throughout these games.

“Sometimes when you look at the season as a whole, you want to be playing the big boys early on like Wolves have done this time around. It could work in their favour because it’s better than facing these top teams in January, when you could be facing a whole new set of problems, like injuries for example.

“I’m going to fancy Wolves in this game though. I have a strange feeling about them securing a cheeky little away win. Brentford 1-2 Wolves.”

It would be a huge result for Wolves if they did beat Brentford, giving O’Neil and his players a boost ahead of the international break after a wretched run of results.

No game is a must-win in October, but O’Neil could really use three points against Brentford given the games ahead.

Following the international break, Wolves will face Manchester City at Molineux before travelling to Brighton.

As a result, if Wolves fail to beat Brentford, they risk ending up with nine Premier League games without a win, leaving O’Neil – who was considered by Liverpool – fighting for his job.
