A finance expert believes Rangers could close the £40 million deficit and closing up on Celtic with a new owner.
Behind the scenes, the Light Blues are undergoing some changes. John Bennett has stood down as chairman while the search for a new CEO to replace James Bisgrove, who left in the summer, continues.
They currently trail Celtic by five points in the Premiership. Speculation has developed about new investment in Rangers, with wild claims being made that a party in the Far East is interested in the team.
Former Manchester City adviser Stefan Borson has said that a new owner may help Rangers return to the Champions League. That new investment would then assist close the deficit with Celtic, which he believes is worth up to £40 million.
The finance specialist told Football Insider: “Rangers must return to the Champions League.” If you can go back into the Champions League, that will have a huge influence.
“Given the other revenue streams and the very light domestic TV deal, if you can get into the Champions League and earn those Champions League revenues, it is going to be transformational for Rangers. It would also allow them to continue to compete with Celtic.
“While they are out of the Champions League, they are going to find it difficult because they are going to be £20-£40million behind in revenue and profit because a lot of this stuff goes straight to the bottom line.
