Tahith Chong fell during Luton Town’s defeat to Plymouth Argyle last night, but boss Rob Edwards is sure he will recover quickly.

The former Manchester United winger created alarm and concern in the first half after receiving a knock to the head and lying prostrate on the ground for several minutes.

After receiving treatment, the 24-year-old was able to walk to the dressing room with the assistance of doctors and physiotherapists, although he seemed to have a massive lump on his head.

Despite the apparent seriousness of the injury, Chong is unlikely to be out for a long time and will be closely followed in the coming days.

‘He’s up and about and fine,” Edwards said after the match which ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for his side.

‘So we’ll see the extent of it concussion wise. He was a bit sore but he’s fine.’

Argyle’s victory, meanwhile, continued their upward trend and provided another welcome lift for manager Wayne Rooney, who had a rough start to his Home Park stint.

‘We were underestimated at the start of the season before we kicked a ball and then especially after the first game,’ said Rooney after the game. ‘But I think we’ve shown real character, we’ve shown the type of team we want to be, we’re getting the ball forward and creating chances.

‘It’s a big win for us tonight against a good Luton team. It’s a big win for a lot of our young players. I was delighted for the lads tonight, delighted for the fans – great atmosphere again, so a great start to the weekend.’

On Ibrahim Cissoko, who scored two wonderful second-half goals, he said: ‘He’s a fantastic player, and he demonstrated his abilities tonight when he came on. It wasn’t simple to inform him he wasn’t playing.

‘I felt late in the game, so I told him yesterday, ‘Just trust me, you’re going to come on and win us the game’. It’s always fantastic as a manager when this happens, and it proves to be true.
